Are you looking for an interesting anime with passionate Yandere women who will do anything to be with the one they love? And by anything, we mean stalk, fight, beg… Even murder? We will show you some of the most interesting Yandere in anime and give you a reason why you should give them a chance! A chance to give you exactly what you are looking for!

Before we continue, we shall explain the term “Yandere”.

According to Urban Dictionary, Yandere is “A person who will go to nearextreme to extreme lengths to be in or deepen a desired relationship, whether it be romantic, platonic, familial, etc.

The Dere Types Wiki describes Yandere as “…a term used for a person who is initially loving and caring to someone they have a strong affection for until their romantic love, admiration, and devotion becomes feisty and mentally destructive in nature through either over protectiveness, violence, brutality or all three combined…

Also, The Dere Types Wiki explains the origin of the word, “The “yan” in the word yandere (ヤンデレ) comes from the verb yanderu (病んでる) which means “to be sick mentally.” This is slightly different from the verb yamu (病む) which means “to be sick (generally),” despite yanderu (病んでる) being also considered a contraction of the verb yamu in the te-iru form yandeiru (病んでいる).

She gives it her all to break them apart, showing herself as selfish, sometimes cold, and determined to get what she desires. It doesn’t matter to her if someone will get hurt. 29. Akane Hiyama

Love Tyrant – Ren’ai Bōkun

Akane Hiyama

A Yandere to her core. You can expect from Akane pretty much everything you’d expect from a true Yandere in anime. She is in love with Seiji and if anyone desires him, she will step in removing possible threats. She has a violent and obsessive personality, seeing every girl as an unwanted nuisance. But, despite her nature, she won’t force Seiji into dating her. Physically, she is beautiful with fiery red hair and red eyes. It seems that the color of her hair and eyes reflects her true nature. Without revealing too much, you can expect blood, violence, and moments of insanity from her part.

Genre: Harem, Romantic comedy

28. Esdeath

Akame ga Kill! – Akame ga Kiru!

Esdeath

This fearless beauty of light blue hair and blue eyes is anything but a damsel in distress. She is a high-ranking general of the Empire and her main enemy is the Night Raid – a unit of people who oppose the law and defy her and the Empire. She falls in love deeply and instantly. She wants him for herself and she will kill anyone to get to him, even the innocent people. – Bakemonogatari

Hitagi Senjougahara

Her classmates judge her, unaware of why she keeps to herself, and yet, they want to be her. She excels in academics and sports, but nobody knows of her secret. The paranormal part starts when Hitagi encounters a strange crab which makes her weightless. Now the fun begins – disease on one plate, and family matters on the other plate. She experiences a few moments of betrayal which lead her to become a Yandere. And here, you actually side with her and understand her decisions. Her Yandere personality isn’t as expressive as the personalities of others on this list, but she deserves to be mentioned.

Genre: Mystery, paranormal, psychological

26. Kanato Sakamaki

Diabolik Lovers – Diaborikku Ravāzu

Kanato Sakamaki

Men are not excluded from this list and they are for a good reason mentioned here. Kanato is one of them. He is the fourth son of the Sakamaki family. His father Karlheinz is the Vampire King. Kanato’s personality is very distinctive. One would describe him as a weird boy who never blinks and always makes strange disturbing comments. He is eccentric, a loner who talks to dolls and hurts himself. Since he lives in a wealthy family, Kanato acts very spoiled, throws tantrums, and expects to get what he sets his eyes on. Did we say he never blinks? He is very attached to his Teddy bear and if anybody touches him, Kanato loses his mind. He doesn’t understand human relationships so it is interesting how he interprets certain situations.

Genre: Drama, harem, mystery, horror, romance

Happy Sugar Life – Happī Shugā Raifu

So, her friends would describe her as kind, loving, popular and everybody wants to be around her.

That is the image she wants them to see. Satou manipulates them into believing what she says. Now you can see the first traits of being a Yandere – manipulation. She will lie, cheat and kill. Yes, kill. If that is the only option to keep her little world with Shio, she will not step away from it. As the story progresses, threats will appear that can destroy her happy little sugar life.

Genre: Psychological horror, psychological thriller

24. Griffith

Berserk – Beruseruku

Griffith

Berserk is a story that revolves around Guts, a lone mercenary, and Griffith, leader of the “Band of the Hawk” and our Yandere character. We are interested in Griffith, a beautiful white-haired man who is not so ordinary. It truly is an epic story of ending wars, laying claim to the land and men, and, of course, claiming right on one’s life. Griffith shows his Yandere personality from the moment he enlists Guts in his own personal army, after defeating him in a duel. He uses his influence to keep Guts by his side, not even caring if he will come across as creepy or pushy. Griffith is charismatic, a leader, self-aware, and quite manipulative.

Genres: Comedy

22. Nadeko Sengoku

– Monstory – Bakemonogatari

Nadeko Sengoku

At first, Nadeko is a good girl, not much different from others, but changes drastically the moment she falls in love. It is fascinating how love can make someone act. The man of her choice is Koyomi and she needs to win his heart before another girl Hitagi does. So, there is no Yandere personality shown from her side until later in the anime. Nadeko experiences a mental breakdown after Shinobu’s provocations go too far. Nadeko gets the idea to eat a charm and she becomes a psychotic oddity. Now you no longer see a kind girl from the beginning, but an obsessive girl who lives, breathes and thinks of her crush and everything about him. The good girl is gone, and a true Yandere appears.

Genres: Comedy

21. Toga Himiko

My Hero Academia – Boku no Hero Akademia

Toga-Himiko

The moment you set your eyes on Himiko, you know she isn’t kind, nor normal. Her yellow eyes revealed her eccentric, free, and passionate thoughts that were accompanied by proper actions. Or maybe better said improper actions. In anime with superheroes, she is depicted as a villain who never stops smiling. She won’t stray from killing, but she won’t stray from being a true sadist either. Himiko has no problem with revealing what she wants and she almost treats her possible victims as little toys she wishes to use and ditch. Simply said, she has a very unstable personality and it is never boring when she’s on-screen!

Genres: Adventure, fantasy, superhero

20. Takami Minatsuki

Deadman Wonderland – Deddoman Wandārando

Takami Minatsuki

Takami is one free-spirited, wild girl who lives her life to the fullest. She had pigtails before, but they were cut in a penalty game. As seen in the picture, she has brown hair and dark brown eyes. At first, as it goes for Yandere in anime, she is shown as shy and gentle. Takami really loves flowers and she even has flowers in her hair. And, of course, it is all a lie. There is nothing gentle about her. She tricks people into believing that she is a loving, kind person, but she is quite the opposite. There is a true psychopathic nature lurking behind her actions manifesting in her becoming sexually aroused when seeing others suffer.

Genres: Dystopian, post-apocalyptic, thriller

19. Kurumi Tokisaki

Date a Live – Dēto A Raibu

Kurumi Tokisaki

Somehow, the moment you learn an anime character has pigtails, there’s nothing sweet and innocent about her. Well, Kurumi sports pigtails. To give you context, she is one of the spirits from another realm who caused devastating earthquakes across Europe and Asia. She presents herself as an ordinary high school girl with a set goal on her mind – to consume Shido Itsuka to make herself stronger. Kurumi killed over 10 000 people. Others see her as kind and polite, but underneath that facade, she hates humans and is somewhat mad. Her madness manifests in a form of insane laughter. Despite those things being said, there is a certain depth of character and she is quite interesting.

Genres: Harem, Romantic comedy, science-fiction

18. Mika Harima

– Durarara!!

Mika Harima

Although she is a side character, Mika is still notable enough to be mentioned. She had brown eyes and brown hair, but she lightened her appearance with surgery. She is in a relationship with Seiji and she will do anything to please him. For example, changing her appearance to look like somebody else whom he loved. Mika is somewhat seen as a stalker according to her behavior, but the situation isn’t that black and white. She is very possessive of him and moments like breaking into his home definitely doesn’t diminish that belief. Reason for her being this way is that Seiji save her and he friend from thugs.

Genres: Adventure, dark fantasy, isekai

17. Shouko Kirishima

Baka and Test – Baka to Tesuto to Shokanju

Shouko Kirishima

A side character in “Baka and Test“, but definitely worth the mention. It seems this anime has more than one Yandere character and it only benefits the plot. She is depicted as a purple-eyed girl with purple hair, extremely beautiful and desired by many boys in school. She is often serious but adds remarks about herself on random occasions (stating the size of her breasts). Her childhood friend Yuuji is also her love interest and she develops deep feelings for him. Probably up to a point of serious jealousy. She keeps a watchful eye on him and will hurt him if she suspects of not being truthful to her.

Genres: Comedy

Hunter x Hunter

Morow Hisoka

Hunter x Hunter is a story about a few characters from different backgrounds and aspirations, wishing to become hunters. Morow is one of the hunters, an established transmuter who gets obsessed with the main character Gon Freecss. He loves challenges and strong opponents. If they are weaker than him, they are good as dead. But if they have potential, he will let them live until he challenges them again. He admires Gon, although the word “admires ” is too weak. He admires him to the sick, sexual extent. His fights with Gon lead him almost to the orgasmic point. But be warned, the anime isn’t finished. So, if you wish to know more about him, the manga is always available.

Genres: Adventure, fantasy, martial arts

15. Nina Einstein

Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion

Nina Einstein

Nina is a student at Ashford Academy and later a developer of weapons for the government. Olive green hair and gray eyes encompassed with glasses give the impression of a smart girl with ambitious dreams. At first, she is introduced as shy and quiet. There is a possibility that she was used by the Elevens, Japanese people who live in Area 11 under the rule of Britannia. Because of mentioned history, she dislikes them and doesn’t want to be near them. She seeks comfort in Euphemia, but her Yandere personality heightens the moment she loses Euphemia. From dislike, feelings grow into a rage, making her overall unstable. She is seen to change and further develop her personality as consequences change her. She is not a major character so you won’t see much of her as you will those who are.

Genres: Alternate history, mecha, military

14. Shalltear Bloodfallen

Overlord – Obarodo

Shalltear Bloodfallen

Shalltear Bloodfallen is one of the Floor Guardians who obey Ainz and Albedo. She is a vampire who shows tendencies of liking sexual punishment when it is provided by Ainz. Unlike Albedo, she has a petite figure and a very flirtatious personality. She will make sexual advances since she is very outspoken and open about her interests (necrophilia, sadomasochism, and bi-sexuality). She is too loyal to Ainz and definitely would like to be his little sex toy. Her Yandere personality is seen in scenes where she easily loses her temper (meaning death for someone), is proud, and mostly shifts her mood in a blink of an eye.

Genres: Dark fantasy, isekai

13. Belarus

– Hetalia: Axis Powers – Hetaria Akushisu Pawāzu

Belarus

If you’re into symbolism, you’re gonna love this anime. Each character presents a country with all their good and not-so-good stereotypes. Belarus has long platinum hair and dark blue eyes. She is rather focused on her brother Russia, in a romantic sense. Yes, you read that right. She wishes to marry her brother, but he won’t see it that way. Her personality manifests in angry fits and can be intimidating to others. She will do exactly what is on her mind. For example, break Lithuania’s fingers when he asks her out on a date. How dare he! Besides physical actions, her language isn’t innocent either. Belarus uses profanities and vulgar speech and that is just the tip of the iceberg. It is definitely fun to watch!

Genres: Comedy, historical

12. Rolo Lamperouge

Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion

Rolo Lamperouge

Rolo is the younger brother of the main character Lelouch Lamperogue. He is a kind boy to his brother and friends, at least until he learns that Lelouch got his memory back. Then he shows just who he truly is. Cold. Ruthless. Phlegmatic. He feels proud when he kills, either it is his own men or the enemies, but he is not a black and white character. Later on, he somehow always keeps that good part of himself reserved for Lelouch. He could be described as a mentally unstable individual, but he was still capable of executing a mission without breaking a sweat.

Genres: Alternate history, mecha, military

11. Megumi Shimizu

Corpse Demon – Shiki

Megumi Shimizu

But her dream was cut short by a Kirishiki family. Megumi lost her life and came back as a vampire. But she was ecstatic because her small boring life just started to be a bit more interesting. She was no longer a nobody. It seems that the transformation heightened disturbing parts of her personality. She is self-centered, malicious, and she focused on Natsuno on a more disturbing level – stalking him and fixating on him.

Genres: Mystery, psychological thriller, vampire horror

10. Rena Ryuugu

– Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni – When They Cry

Rena Ryuugu

Without revealing too much of the plot, Rena is one of the main characters in “Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni”. In some scenes, her Yandere traits are visible – being quite murderous and almost like in a trance. She isn’t the only character with a Yandere personality in anime and it is anything but boring. Her behavior and those of her friends are explained with the Hinamizawa Syndrome. It is a syndrome where a host suffers from a fictional organic brain disease. And it is only present in the Hinamizawa residents. Those with named Syndrome tend to scratch their throat, going up to the point where they hurt themselves to the extent of bleeding out. Let’s just say things get out of hand once there is a hatchet in Rena’s hands.

09. Shuu Tsukiyama

Tokyo Ghoul

Shuu Tsukiyama

Those of you who saw the first season of Tokyo Ghoul will agree to put him on the list. Those of you who didn’t, what are you waiting for? How to describe Shuu? Creepy. Extremely creepy. He is a ghoul and a part of a very wealthy family. He pretends to befriend the main character Ken Kaneki with a secret desire to devour him. Shuu finds Ken’s scent and taste irresistible and eventually plots to eat him. Shuu is smart, confident, and friendly, but it is a mask he wears. Typical of a Yandere. When he is alone, his true nature appears. Hunger. Cruelty. And rather eccentric behavior. He wishes to taste only people with finest “flesh” and you’ll find him acting as a conceited aristocrat or a rich person. Once he’s on the scene, it is hard to look away.

Overlord – Obarodo

Albedo

Overseer of the Guardians of the Great Tomb of Nazarick, Albedo is a supervisor of the seven Floor Guardians. She was created by Tabula Smaragdina but modified to fall in love with Ainz. Her appearance is accompanied by light horns, dark wings, and an incredible hunger for Ainz. Just to explain what she is like, there is a moment when she sleeps in his bed, savoring his smell even though they are not together. Albedo is loyal, clingy, obsessive, and extremely jealous when her rivals try to win his heart.

Genres: Dark fantasy, isekai

07. Shion Sonozaki

Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni – When They Cry

Shion Sonozaki

Her sister’s name is Mion, only Shion wears her hair with a ribbon on top. And Mion wears her hair in a ponytail. Just like Rena, Shion is one of the main characters of the anime. Throughout the anime, she goes through experiences that make her borderline mad. Because of her unstable mind, she becomes ruthless, sadistic, and eager to kill anyone she sets her eyes on. And a little side note, one of the characters in this anime definitely has the most fun smile – Satoko Hojo.

Genres: Murder mystery, psychological horror, supernatural horror

06. Lucy/Nyu/Kaede

Elfen Lied

Lucy

Lucy is the main character – protagonist, and antagonist of the Elfen Lied anime. The first scenes of anime show Lucy breaking free from her “prison”, killing everyone that crosses her path, leaving a bloody trail behind her. As she escapes, she receives a bullet to the brain. The bullet didn’t kill her, but it created a split personality. Lucy is ruthless, driven by hatred for human beings. And she had every reason for it because they were mean towards her when she was younger. Nyu, on the other hand, has the intelligence of a toddler. The only word she utters is the word “Nyu”, hence the name. She is kind, innocent, and she saw the world from a child’s perspective. Those two personalities shift from one to the other during the events. It is only a matter of time if you were lucky enough to encounter Nyu or Lucy.

Genres: Dark fantasy, horror, science fiction

At first, Kotonoha is reserved and it takes some time for her to warm up to him, even though she did feel the same towards her. Other girls were starting rumors about her because they were jealous, and it resulted in her being isolated from other people. She didn’t have many friends, and because of other girls, she had even fewer. She then focuses on her boyfriend, but her belief that Makoto might leave her drives her to depression.
