Mob Psycho 100 is a popular Studio Bones anime that follows a twelve-year-old boy named Mob, a gifted psychic child that doesn’t like using his powers. He aspires to live a normal life but also does not want to lose control over his powers. He aims to enjoy the day-to-day life of being an average teenager but trouble follows him everywhere he goes. The twist is the more Mob uses his powers, the more dangerous he becomes. The story revolves around how Mob tempers his uncontrollable powers.

And so, it begins!

1. One Punch Man

“You Said You Worked Hard? Well, Maybe You Need To Work A Little Longer.”

In a city of criminals, thieves and supervillains all around, Saitama decides to become a superhero. He trains so hard and ends up being so strong that he can defeat any enemy with just one punch. So, his dream of fighting off exciting and challenging enemies is soon replaced by overpowered boredom as he is too strong. But his life is empty and hollow, just one hero in a world filled with enemies. He has a laid-back attitude to everything and for the most part, he finds his entire hero life meaningless.

One Punch Man is based on a web manga written by ONE, who also wrote Mob Psycho 100. While simply having the same author doesn’t guarantee similarity, the two works do have a similar vibe. Both have an art style that goes from simple to intense depending on the mood of the scene, and both the series’ protagonists are immensely powerful but aren’t widely recognized for their abilities. The difference is that Saitama actually wants recognition while Mob prefers to keep his powers under wraps as much as possible.

Saitama and Mob aside, both series wonderfully build up all the other characters and the world. Saitama’s strength derives from the sheer force, although both characters are tremendously strong and provide hilarious, well-timed humor to their respective series. The humor in this show stems from quick visuals to quirky jokes that poke fun at the surrounding characters. Both One Punch Man and Mob Psycho 100 are ideal companion pieces everyone needs to watch.

If you’re looking for another action-packed world to watch out for, One Punch Man has you covered!

2. Haven’t You Heard? I’m Sakamoto

“Mankind Is A Very Interesting Species.”

Sakamoto, a first-year high school student, isn’t just cool, he’s the coolest! Not just that but is flawlessly perfect! He is intelligent, charming, attractive and everything one would wish for. Despite the strange situations he might be in, Sakamoto always manages to fix the problem in absolute perfection while still being over the top. He has no limitations. Haven’t You Heard? He is Sakamoto!

You think Mob Psycho 100 is super cool, right? Now, think of a more fabulous version of Mob, a bit older and without psychic powers and that is it – Sakamoto! Although the feel of both the shows is completely different, one who loved the absurd comedy and slice-of-life feel of Mob Psycho 100, will definitely enjoy the magnificence of Sakamoto. From the opening credits to the end sequence, both are an entertaining ride that doesn’t ask much of their audience.

Both Mob Psycho 100 and Sakamoto’s characters are made interesting through their complexity, with their ability to deal with their flaws, accept them and improve upon them wherever they can. That’s what makes it a complex yet interesting storyline. Just like Mob destroys his enemy so effortlessly,  Sakamoto defeats them with sheer charm and charisma.

If you’re looking for a show that will bring a smile to your face, then look no further than Sakamoto it is!!

3. The Disastrous Life of Saiki K.

“No Matter How Big An Accident Is, It’s Always Triggered By A Minor Thing, So A Minor Change Can Avoid It Entirely.”

For many of us, psychic powers sound like a dream, but for Saiki, this has been nothing less than a living nightmare. Kusuo Saiki is a typical 16-year-old high school student, born with supernatural abilities ranging from X-ray vision to telepathy. Even though he has kept his powers secret, his powers are a direct hindrance to his hopes of living a normal life. The plot centers around how the temptations of high-school life will make him change his ways.

This is a short fast-paced version of Mob Psycho 100 with the only difference being Saiki hiding his powers from everyone. Both Mob Psycho and Saiki are the characters that try to live their lives while using their psychic powers and end up going through many hilarious adventures. Although the vibe of the shows is quite different from Mob Psycho, as Saiki is much more cynical and sarcastic than Mob, what binds them together are interesting and quirky side characters that make you laugh till your stomach hurts!

Sometimes, all an anime fan needs is a series full of fun. The Disastrous Life of Saiki K. is just the perfect mix of chaos and comedy, making it perfect for some light watching and a must-watch for anime fans who enjoy Mob Psycho 100. The characters are made to perfectly fit their comic roles. It’s not heavy on plot, and the story more or less follows a slice-of-life path with a lot of offbeat humor.

Looking for a mix of chaos, comedy, and wholesomeness, The Disastrous Life of Saiki K is worth trying out!

4. Noragami

“Even If Things Are Tough And Painful People Should Appreciate What It Means To Be Alive At All.”

Noragami presents a mythical tale of gods with a new and original spin. It centers around Yato who is the self-proclaimed ‘Delivery God’. When called upon, he would solve any problems or inquiries for just five yen a piece, in order to start having more worshippers. His foolish and irresponsible personality makes his weapon partner leave him for someone else. He then meets Hiyori, where he takes upon the responsibility to turn her back into a human and fix her supernatural experiences.

Noragami is a nicely paced, well-rounded show, rotating around action, drama, and comedy just like Mob Psycho 100. Another show with an overpowered lead that finds joy in everyday things. Noragami has supernatural battles, great comedy, spirits as well as a unique ‘mentor-student’ relationship that will remind you a lot of Mob Psycho 100. The theme might be very different from one another but since they are both animated by studio BONES, the aesthetic and quality of animation are certainly the same.

Both Mob Psycho and Noragami have incredible world-building and great characters added to them. The intense fight scenes in them are absolute to look out for. Along with that, you’ll enjoy the everyday life episodes that are over-the-top funny & tears of joy and laughter because of the insane production.

If you’re looking for a perfect balance of spiritual conflict and slice-of-life comedy, Noragami is the one to look for!

5. Hinamatsuri

“I Have No Idea What You Really Want, What You’re Really Thinking, Or What The Right Thing To Do Really Is. But I’m Your Friend. Let Me Stay.”

Hinamatsuri is a wonderful and intriguing tale about an ordinary guy named Nitta and a little girl named Hina who holds supernatural powers. This rare combination makes Hinamatsuri. The supernatural girl meets Nitta who turns his daily life upside down. The heart of the show is this weird duo. Hina has powerful telekinetic powers that she uses to force Nitta to let her live with him. As they start staying together, her powers become both a curse and a blessing that put them through some crazy everyday adventures. And so the unusual life of this strange duo begins.

Hinamatsuri is a perfect example of ‘psychic comedy’. If you liked watching Reigen taking advantage of Mob’s powers, you will love the action between Nitta and Hina. Another thing that is quite similar between Mob Psycho and Hinamatsuri is the unique way of showing characters’ facial expressions, which definitely makes us laugh a lot. The comedy scenes are very similar and even though Hinamatsuri sometimes focuses more on parenthood and raising kids, it surely has an amazing sense of humor as to Mob Psycho 100.

Both Mob and Hina have incredible comedic timing, likable characters, and a rich world. They both are just trying to get through their daily, socially awkward lives with the occasional psychic battle on the side. Both experience heartwarming relationships and life lessons with their fellow mates. A huge character development that leaves you stunned and shocked. Both Mob Psycho and Hero Academia offer visually stunning anime with impactful characters. Hero Academia is much more action-packed than Mob Psycho but is just as character-driven and does a similarly great job developing its main cast. Both are unique and entertaining in their own way. Similarly, Mob Psycho 100 and Akira aren’t that different from each other. The major characters in both are monstrously powerful in terms of psychic progress.

Akira is a jaw-dropping anime that went on to influence many in the entertainment industry. Both anime showcases esper-themed characters fighting off numerous enemies that pose a threat to them or others.
