Shokugeki no Souma season 4 episode 5 review – The umami tightrope

Shokugeki no Souma season 4 episode 5 was finally released.  There was a lot of hype left with last episodes cliffhanger. I’m excited to see the Yukihira Souma versus Hayama Akira battle. They have faced off two times already I think, and each time Yukihira had lost. Now, Hayama had proven himself to be an even more competent chef. He reached totsuki elite ten by defeating all the 2nd and 3rd years in the school that was competing for it. This just proves how overpowered Hayama can be with his nose. Hayama and Erina are like Gods of cooking. However, this time I think that Yukihira will win. Even without watching I can say that.  Yukihira simply needs to pass this, to move forward in the challenge. There will definitely be some plot armor.

Shokugeki no Souma season 4 episode 5 review

At the beginning of the episode, we start off right where episode 4 left. Yukihira asked Hayama about why he is doing this, and why he is aiding central. I think this is because Yukihira believes in Hayama. They have already met and exchanged experiences through cooking. Souma understands that something is wrong with Hayama. And we also see Hayama say that he is doing it all because of Jun. Now I know that might have been a bit obvious, him joining central because of Jun. In the last episode, we can clearly remember Hayama saying that their research club was disbanded. And that such activities can not be done outside of central view and permissions.  The fact that Hayama is siding with central to help Jun seemed more than a logical explanation. His actions and everything else that he has done has pointed towards this.

Hayama Akira

It’s all for Jun

After the squirmish between Hayama and Souma, we get to see a reason as to why he is doing it. It was explained by Dojima-senpai while they were all butt-naked in the huge shower. Basically, Yukihira was wondering why Hayama did not challenge central to a shokugeki. If they won the shokugeki their research group would not be disbanded. However, there was one more problem with it. Their research group was much more different than Yukihiras dorm. The research group depended on support from various other groups and companies. They had sponsors and contracts for jobs I would assume. Azami had arranged for all of those to be shut down, a pretty slick move I gotta say.  With this, he had grabbed Hayama by the balls.

Stage three begin!

We finally get to see the main point of shokugeki no Souma season 4 episode 5. All of the rebels are faced off against a member of the elite ten. It is not only Yukihira that has a huge wall to face, everyone is facing off against very powerful enemies. I really wonder, how many of them will pass? Yukihira faced off against Hayama, and he finished off his dish first. The dish was very good and all of the judges were happy with Yukihiras dish.  The other rebels were not shown, I guess they will be showing off their results in the next episode.

Conclusion

The episode finished up with another cliffhanger, damn it. I was very excited to see the results of the match. Most off all, I wanted to know how they will explain Yukihras win. I mean, he can’t lose, right? Yukihira lost already, and the anime is at the point where he can’t afford to lose. He must keep moving forward. The episode overall was alright, the battle finished up pretty fast. And there was some small loli fanservice towards the end of the episode. But I’m glad that it was not much, honestly, the fanservice made me not want to watch this anime when it first started off. But I am very glad I gave it a shot. And that would be my conclusion for Shokugeki no Souma season 4 episode 5.
