During his journey, he meets an orphan who claims to be a great thief. The greatest in the entire country of Japan, even. Together, the two travel while trying to find the demons. The manga has 19 chapters and four volumes. It’s one of the greatest shounen manga from the 60s, and it’s aged quite well. It’s unpredictable and keeps you on your toes as you don’t know when your favorite character might die because the writer made sure to make it a cruel, ruthless world and all the back.

Kurozakuro

This manga tells the story of a boy named Mikito Sakurai. He’s a pushover and gets scared of anything and everything. However, one day, he swallows a creature called Zakuro. This allows him to become an “oni.” With a newly developed taste for human flesh, he becomes a supernatural creature. His sudden shift in personality completely jars Mikito. He used to be a gentle boy. To turn back into a human, he decides to join an oni-hunter to find answers.

The two mangas feature a character that was once human but has now become a demon. With a desire to become human again, the story unfolds as they attempt to find these answers. A problem with many mangas is that the story isn’t as engaging initially, or you give up halfway through.

In a world set in the future, ancient relics called O-Parts are considered valuable, and humanity battles over them. They can’t be unlocked by just anyone, though.  It takes a special kind of person to do so. These kinds of people are called O.P.T.s, short for O-Parts Tacticians. They’re a force to reckon with. The O-Parts can also be used for evil reasons, unfortunately.

With a tragic past and distrust for everything, Jio is a young boy who only cares about getting money – the most important thing to him in the world. Little does he know that a demon of incredible power sleeps inside him, making him a skilled O.P.T.  He meets a girl named Ruby, who wants to become a world-famous treasure hunter. Together, they begin a quest to find the most number of O-Parts. 

It’s a refreshing change that allows you to feel the rawness of the story. The characters are the strongest point of the story, and they support the flow wholeheartedly. Character interactions are spectacular, and each character has something to convey to the reader. You’ll keep wanting to know what happens next as the story is extremely believable.

Jujutsu Kaisen - Manga Similar to Demon Slayer

Powerful humans are known as “Jujutsu” sorcerers in this supernatural world. They use their mystical powers to exterminate monsters known as “Curses.” This age-old conflict where Curses terrorize humans rages on while being hidden in plain sight. High school student Yuuji Itadori finds himself joining the bloody battle accidentally. He does so by finding a dried-up finger of a legendary Curse named Sukuna Ryoumen.

Yuuji makes a hasty decision to protect himself from a Curse that was attracted to the power of the finger. In the process, he gains the ability to fight these monsters and unleashes Sukuna into the world again. The Jujutsu world categorizes Yuuji as a high-level, dangerous Curse that must be defeated. This is because Yuuji can control and confine the malicious curse in his own body.

As he gets detained and receives a death sentence, he meets a teacher at Jujutsu High School. The teacher explains that there is an alternate option available to him despite his expected execution. As he’s a rare vessel to the Curse, Sukuna would perish along with Yuuji if he were to die.

Thus, Yuuji’s imminent execution would completely eradicate the demon if he were to consume all other remnants of Sukuna as well. After hearing this, he enrolls in high school in hopes of living a longer life and making the world a safer place. He jumpstarts his journey into a cruel and ruthless battlefield.

Blood

Living with her adoptive family, Saya Otonashi is an ordinary girl living in the city of Okinawa. The only thing weird about her is her anemia and her inability to remember her life beyond the past year. However, one day, she gets attacked by a creature that’s bloodthirsty while at school. It seems her forgotten past has come back to bite her. Just as she was about to give up, Haji, a mysterious man, appears and temporarily makes the creature be at bay.

However, once Saya is forced to drink her rescuer’s blood, she enters into a trance. Using her blood as a catalyst, she slays the monster with no problem. After this incident, she gets informed about an organization called Red Shield. This group was made solely for defeating these demonic beasts. Now, in collaboration with Red Shield, Haji and Saya work together to eradicate the monsters. At the same time, they try to figure out the secrets in her past.

The manga is action-packed and dark yet sad. It’s not just many action scenes thrown together, and the story features a tragic setting. The animation has amazing shading details, and character designs have significant variations. The character development is spectacular as it makes you feel that they’re three-dimensional. The relationships they share are amazing. Despite being a vampire manga, it focuses on anything, but. This manga is one of the better ones, and you’ll enjoy reading it.

Nurarihyon no Mago

Rikou Nura is a middle school student that lives an ordinary life. Or so it seems. Looks can be deceiving. In reality, this young boy is the heir to a large clan of youkai as he has one-fourth of youkai blood himself. His grandfather, Nurarihiyon, is leading it. However, he’s always been reluctant to become the Nura clan’s successor and always wanted to avoid his destiny. Ever since he was a child, he’d been taught that youkai do evil things, and so, he doesn’t want to claim that part of him.

Every night, he transforms into a terrifying youkai. This transformation makes him look like his grandfather when he was in his prime time. He realizes that he can protect others by using his powers and, thus, accepts being the successor. He wants to establish a “Night Parade of a Hundred Demons” by uniting all the factions of youkai spread across Japan. The shounen has plenty of arcs without making it feel like the story drags on.

InuYasha

Inuyasha is a hybrid between a demon and a human as he was born from a great demon and a human mother. While attempting to take the Shikon Jewel, he was bound to a sacred tree due to Kikyo’s bow and arrow. The reason Inuyasha seeks the jewel is that he thinks it will turn him into a full-fledged demon. In modern-day Japan, Kagome Higurashi is a high school student that falls into a sacred well, and time travels 500 years into the past. It turns out that she’s the priestess Kikyo’s reincarnation.

She releases Inuyasha from the spell, but soon, she shatters the Shikon Jewel into fragments. To find all pieces before they fall into the wrong hands, the two agree to work together. As a result, they travel across Japan and develop a close bond on the way while facing trials and hardships.

This manga is quite different from others and might even be considered a classic by many fans. The names and references to actual historical and mythological creatures in Japan are woven into the plot. This adds richness and a specific texture that’s not usually found in other mangas. However, his dream of becoming the strongest ends due to a tragic event in his past. He even comes to resent all exorcists.

In contrast, a beautiful and similarly talented exorcist, Benio Adashino, is of the same age and holds her dream and goals close to her heart. A prophecy destines these two teenagers to give birth to Miko. Miko is supposedly the exorcist who will cleanse the world of all the Kegare and remove impurities. However, the two of them have several differences and are immature. The two heroes have to undergo many trials and hardships.

The manga Twin Star Exorcists is similar to Demon Slayer as it’s also an action shounen that involves humans and demons. Along with this, humans can turn into demons if they’re “infected” by a bite. There are female allies to the main characters, and there’s a ranking system to both demon power levels and human power levels. The one big difference would have to be the time period.

Kekkaishi

Ayakashi are evil creatures that venture into the human world sometimes. Kekkaishi is people who possess supernatural abilities and can destroy these creatures. The demons want to feast on emanating power from the land of Karasumori. This is the same place where Yoshimura Sumimura’s high school is located.

Yoshimura comes from a long line of Kekkaishi, and he must now fight to protect his hometown and his loved ones in it.  But to be honest, he’d instead bake cakes than fighting the ugly creatures in the night.

Thankfully, he isn’t alone in this battle. To help him keep the monsters away, his childhood friend, Tokine Yukimura, joins him. Although the two are from clans who are rivals, they make an excellent duo. Their teamwork is essential to fighting the Ayakashi as they attack in waves. The evil creatures aim to claim Karasumori and make it their own.

While all this is happening, a shadowy organization is waiting for the right moment to pounce. With creative action, memorable characters, and refreshing pacing, you’ll find yourself finishing the manga in no time.

D Gray Man

Thousands of years ago, specially blessed people existed who had one mission. They had to use the power gifted to him to destroy “Akuma,” evil creatures that roam in darkness. Akuma wants to destroy any remnants of “Innocence,” the only type of weapons that can harm their leader, Millenium Earl. These weapons can harm his army, as well.

A unique organization named Black Order was formed to prevent the Great Flood’s tragedy from centuries ago from repeating. The method they use is to recruit Exorcists. These are people that have a natural ability to use Innocence and fight the Akuma.

Allen Walker is a young boy with a left arm for his Innocence and a cursed eye. This cursed eye of his proves to be quite useful as he can see Akuma.  Due to this, he is sent to the organization. There, he meets his colleagues. Despite their differences, these people are united by one goal.

All of them want to prevent Millenium Earl from achieving his goal of destroying the world. While doing so, they attempt to bring peace to the souls lost to Akuma. D Gray Man does deserve a spot on manga similar to Demon Slayer, and all the reasons have already been mentioned.

Crimson Spell - Manga Similar to Demon Slayer

Due to circumstances, Prince Vald is forced to use the cursed sword of his family. To lift this curse, he seeks out the help of a sorcerer named Halvir. To find the materials needed to lift the curse, they travel far and wide. How does the curse operate? Well, it turns Vald into a bloodthirsty demon at night in need of human flesh.  The only way the demon side of Vald is put at bay is by having Halvir have sex with it. When the prince awakens in the morning, he has no memory of what’s happened.

Throughout the manga, the pair makes new allies that try to join them in their journey to defeat the curse placed on Vald. The manga artwork is fantastic as it’s drawn by one of the best artists in the industry. The backgrounds are excellent, the costumes are breathtaking, and the characters are naturally flawless.

If you’re a yaoi lover, this is a must-read for you. There’s a steamy passion, but there’s also humor and tender romance as well. (Valium) Even with all this, there’s plenty of action for fantasy nerds with demons, magic, and dragons present in the manga as well.

Chrono Crusade

With monstrous creatures showing up all over America, the 1920s was a decade marked by great upheaval and subsequent change. To combat these demons, an organization called the Order of Magdalene was formed. Sister Rosette Christopher and her partner Chrono belong to the organization’s branch in New York.

This infamous and renowned team does an excellent job with whatever tasks are given to them. Mainly, they’re tasked with removing these monstrous threats, and they cause exceptional collateral damage to these missions. Dark pasts drive the two of them. Rosette, for example, exterminates these demons hoping to find her brother Joshua. A demon Aion took him, the very same demon with whom Chrono also has a tragic past connected.

The two have to fight off the increasing number of demonic threats while they try to discover their origin and the truth behind Joshua’s disappearance. The artwork has accurate and detailed lighting and shading. Skin tones are natural, and the way everything is drawn gives you a sense of familiarity.

Each character has unique abilities, and they retain this individuality as the character development progresses. It’s a great manga that will make you feel connected to the story on a level like never before. The backdrop of Manga Chrono Crusade is quite similar to Demon Slayer, and if you’re a fan of the latter, you need to check these titles.

Sengoku Youko

To stop evil deeds and make the right choice. Such is the faith of step-siblings Youko Tama and Jinka Sendou. To prevent evil acts from occurring, the demon siblings travel across the country. Along the way, they pick up a cowardly swordsman named Hyoudou Shinsuke. With plenty of twists and turns in their journey, they meet wacky characters along the way.

With 100 chapters and 17 volumes, this manga ran for nine years.  It starts as a fun, light-hearted manga but evolves into something profound and unexpected. With losses, reunions, separations, and more, the characters pull you in with an unforgettable story.

Claymore

In this world, humanity is plagued by death and fear due to merciless creatures called “yoma”. They’re monsters that have an insatiable thirst and hunger for human blood and flesh. Shapeshifting beings also possess the ability to steal memories of the last person they ate. As humans are vulnerable to attack, they live in constant unease even if they’re with their family.

However, there is an organization that might make their lives easier. “Claymore” is humanity’s last hope in a world where people speak in fearful whispers of the creatures. The organization comprises half-human, half-yoma female combatants who try to eradicate villages from any yoma.

Despite such a noble cause and the bravery of these women, villagers loathe them due to their yoma side. The manga follows the story of Clare, who seeks personal vengeance.  On her journey to find and kill the yoma that ruined her life, she uncovers many unexpected things. They range from her camaraderie to discovering the dark nature behind the Claymore Organization.

Claymore and Demon Slayers both have enemies that are monsters who eat humans. To take care of the monsters, specialized organizations have been put in place as well. The motivation driving the M.C.s to join the organizations is that their loved ones have been killed or affected by the monsters. Finally, both M.C.s travel wherever their next assignment or mission is, which tells us that this Manga is quite Similar to Demon Slayer.

Fullmetal Alchemist

Alchemists are talented individuals who can modify matter and manipulate it due to their knowledge and art. There are limitations to the range of possibilities and powers they possess, however. For example, human transmutation is a forbidden act and brings along with it several consequences.  Edward and Alphonse Elric, two brothers, ignore this rule and attempt to resurrect their mother. Their stubbornness costs Edward his leg while Alphonse loses his body. To retain his brother’s soul in a suit of armor, Edward gives up his right arm as well. Three years later, the two brothers travel far and wide to find the Philosopher’s Stone. This stone is said to have powers that can reverse the effects of the Law of Equivalent Exchange.  However, on their journey, they uncover darker truths than they could ever imagine.

Both are shounen manga that has a theme of dark fantasy. Also, an older brother joins an organization to find a way to solve the younger sibling’s problem. The development of characters in Fullmetal Alchemist manga and Demon Slayer is similar, and it does connect you to the M.C.s very well.

Berserk

This makes Guts’ world fall apart. Now, Guts has to deal with a fate in which he is marked for death and is pursued relentlessly by demons. Guts won’t let anything stop him. Therefore, he sets out on a quest destined for misfortune. Armed with a sword and equipped with his enormous strength, he’ll only rest when he strips that dreadful person of their head. 

Action, drama, twists, character development, and of course, a sprinkle of romance. The readers are given a chance to understand why a character is the way they are, and it’s beautifully orchestrated.
