Bandai Namco confirms western release for two Taiko no Tatsujin titles

Taiko no Tatsujin

The series Taiko no Tatsujin is a rhythm game series from Japan. Featuring drum controllers and drumsticks, the player will beat their drums to the rhythm of the song and the on-screen display cues. The series is developed by Bandai Namco, the creators of Pac-Man, Tekken, SoulCalibur, and the Tales series.

Earlier this week, Bandai Namco announced two of their rhythm gaming titles will come to the west this year. Featuring Taiko no Tatsujin: Drum Session and Taiko no Tatsujin: Drum ‘n Fun, the two titles will release for the PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch, respectively.

Taiko no Tatsujin – Announcement Trailer

Taiko no Tatsujin originally debuted in the west as Taiko: Drum Master. Released on the PlayStation 2 in 2004, Taiko: Drum Master included a drum controller and drumsticks as well. What separated this release from the Japan one, however, was the song list. Taiko: Drum Master included American pop songs and even the American version of the Dragon Ball Z opening, “Rock the Dragon.” The musical tastes were suited to accommodate western players. Despite the attempt at familiarity, however, the title never quite caught on. You can check out the track list here.

Despite the growing popularity of rhythm games, like Dance Dance Revolution, Guitar Hero, and Rock Band, Taiko: Drum Master was the only game in the series released in America. Bandai Namco, however, would continue to release the game on arcade cabinets, as well as on Sony and Nintendo platforms.

Drum Master and Drum ‘n Fun are two separate titles. Both titles will feature a drum controller and drumsticks included. The Nintendo Switch’s Drum ‘n Fun, however, will allow you to play with JoyCons. This will allow motion controls to replicate the drum actions. In addition, Nintendo characters, such as Kirby, will appear in the title.

Likewise, the PS4’s Drum Session features characters from third-party franchise. Among these include Namco characters such as Heihachi Mishima from Tekken, and Pac-Man. It also includes third-party characters, like Hatsune Miku and Hello Kitty.Taiko no Tatsujin

The Taiko titles feature a plethora of J-Pop, J-Rock, and anime music. However, Bandai Namco has not confirmed any changes to the track list regarding localization. In addition, the developer has not confirmed anything regarding bundles or pricing.
