Before starting with the list of anime similar to My Hero Academia, I would like to say one thing. The shows are not ranked based on my likings of the shows. Fairy Tail – Anime Similar to My Hero Academia

Score: 7.82/10

Genres: Magic, Fantasy, Shounen, Adventure, Action, Comedy

Fairy Tale is another excellent anime similar to My Hero Academia. However, there are no heroes in this anime. Although that might sound disappointing, this anime is a pretty good watch, and it still has many episodes. So if you don’t like anime with many episodes, then this is not anime for you.

However, if you do not mind it, then jump straight into watching this. The story revolves around a team of mages with Natsu as the main character. Natsu was raised by a dragon, which makes him a pretty interesting and fun character to watch.

Yu Yu Hakusho
Yu Yu Hakusho – Anime Similar to My Hero Academia

21. Yu Yu Hakusho

The plot follows the life of Yusuke Urameshi, a 14 years old delinquent who died in his uncharacteristic act of saving a young boy from an accident. Fortunately, Koenma, the son of the underworld’s ruler, King Enma, gives Yusuke another chance to live after his surprising act of kindness. However, there is a condition that he has to complete, a series of tests that earned him the title of the ‘Underworld Detective.’

Helping him in his adventure are his three friends, who will fight against all the enemies that threaten humanity’s existence. It is an old classical shounen anime. And despite having over 100 episodes, it was still able to stay fresh the whole way through. A show filled with action, comedy, supernatural, and a balanced dark genre without any filters. So if someone does pick this anime up, I am sure it will be an unforgettable experience.

Hunter x Hunter - anime similar to my hero academia
Hunter x Hunter – Anime Similar to My Hero Academia

19. Hunter x Hunter

Score: 9.2/10

Genres: Action, Adventure, Superpowers, Shounen

The story revolves around four main characters. First, gon, Kurapika, Leorio, and Killua meet and take the hunter exam. The hunter exam is a combination of endurance and will. Then, the series kicks off when Gon finds out that his father (Ging) is, in fact, not dead.

After hearing about his father, Gon decides to follow in his footsteps and become a hunter. In the first episode, we can see Gon living with his relatives. After finding out that Gon wants to take the Hunter exam, Mito forbids him from taking it. However, gon being stubborn as he is, convinced Mito to let him take the exam if he catches master of the swamp.

There are two versions of Hunter x Hunter, and the 2011 adaption of it is my personal favorite. The series boost one of the most exceptional writing in the world of shonen. The depth and flow of the story, enthralling characterizations, sharp dialogue, and impressive world-building are all crafted into a fascinating tale that can absorb viewers into its universe. It is also some of the most amazing groups of villains that will make you entirely intrigued by their characters.

Blue Exorcist - anime similar to My Hero Academia
Blue Exorcist – Anime Similar to My Hero Academia

18. Blue Exorcist

Score: 7.68/10

Genres: Shounen, Demons, Fantasy, Supernatural, Action

Blue Exorcist is another excellent anime similar to My Hero Academia. The story focuses on Rin Okumura, who has demon powers. The anime has a lot of good fights, and the story is pretty good. However, the first season cut off from the main story on episode 17 and with its path.

But that is alright because all you have to do is watch the first 17 episodes before skipping to season 2. Season 2 of Blue Exorcist continues the story of Rin Okumura. The anime setting is in a school for exorcists. The characters go to school to learn how to become exorcists.  Similar to hero school but more secretive and not so public.

Katekyo Hitman Reborn
Katekyo Hitman Reborn – Anime Similar to My Hero Academia

17. Katekyo Hitman Reborn

Score: 8.23/10

Genres: Shounen, Action, Comedy, Adventure

Before you dive into watching Katekyo Hitman Reborn, I would like to say that the beginning of the anime seems misleading.  Katekyo Hitman Reborn was made with comedy in mind as the central theme. Therefore the first 20 episodes seem slow, parodic, and misleading from the main plot. However, the anime takes a severe turn right after you finish those 20 painful episodes and becomes interesting.

Tsunayoshi Sawada is a typical middle-schooler who has a crush on the school idol, Kyouko Sasagawa. One day, his life changes entirely upon meeting Reborn. Reborn are mysterious hitman in the form of babies. Tsuna finds out that an Italian mafia sent the Reborn. And he is tasked with educating Tsuna to become the next boss of the Vongola family. One Piece
One Piece – Anime Similar to My Hero Academia

16. One Piece

Score: 8.78/10

Genres: Shounen, Adventure, Fantasy, Action, Comedy,

I know some people would say, how is One Piece an anime similar to My Hero Academia? And to some degree, I would have to agree with them. However, this anime is another awesome shounen like My Hero Academia, and it has unique superpowers. Diving into the world of pirates might be a significant change from the heroes. Pirates are bad guys, and heroes are good guys?

Well, that is true. However, after watching this anime, I have to say that the characters there are like Heroes. I won’t say anything else, so I don’t spoil you, although I have to warn you that this is not an anime for you if you are looking for a short binge. One Piece surpassed 900 episodes and is only around 80 percent finished.  Is it worth it? Yes, and the main character is a loveable badass.

Soul Eater
Soul Eater – Anime Similar to My Hero Academia

15. Soul Eater

Score: 8.0/10

Genres: Fantasy, Shounen, Comedy, Action

The story sets in a Death Weapon Meister Academy, located in a fictional Death city. A shinigami Lord Death runs this academy. And its objective is to transform ‘Death Scythes’ for the Shinigami so that they can fight against evil beings. However, death scythes are not easy to be raised, as they require 99 evil souls and one witch’s soul to be consumed by the human hybrid who can transform into a weapon.

If you like BNHA, you will enjoy this anime as the same studio Bones animated it. They have again done a great job by coming up with this series. You can expect to go on a fun ride with this anime’s excellent animation, soundtrack, and exciting plot coupled with the right mix of creepy and surrealness.

World Trigger - anime similar to My Hero Academia
World Triigger – Anime Similar to My Hero Academia

14. World Trigger

Score: 7.54/10

Genres: Sci-Fi, Supernatural, Action, Shounen

World Trigger is a great anime. However, is it an anime similar to My Hero Academia? It is in a way, even though the story is much longer than My Hero Academia. You see, the main character Osamu is weak and slowly gets stronger, and like Deku, he uses his brains at first to come out of a pinch. In addition, the world of World Trigger uses a unique weapon system called “triggers” that enable the user to have special abilities and powers.

Although it’s quite similar to My Hero Academia, Osamu still has not reached the point where he pulls off badass stunts. And most likely, he might not. But that is alright because there are other great characters in his team that compensate for that. And there’s a lot of good fights in the anime.

Mairimashita Iruma-Kun
Mairimashita! Iruma Kun – Anime Similar to My Hero Academia

13. Mairimashita! Iruma-kun

Score: 7.82/10

One day his parents sell him to Sullivan, a demon who kidnaps Iruma and takes him to the demon realm. Frightened, Iruma believes that he is going to be eaten by the demons. However, soon he realizes that Sullivan is a quirky old demon who just wanted a grandchild.

Iruma agrees to be adopted by Sullivan, who then proceeds to spoil Iruma to no-ends. Sullivan pampers Iruma and makes him enroll in the demon school Babyls. Iruma tries to keep a low profile so that other demons do not find out he is human. If they found out, they would most likely eat him. In Babyls, Iruma meets and befriends Azz and Clara. The trio starts their adventure as they tackle everyday tasks in Babyls.

Black Clover
Black Clover – Anime Similar to My Hero Academia

12. Black Clover

Score: 7.34/10

Genres: Shounen, Magic, Fantasy, Action, Adventure

The plot follows the story of Asta, a young boy who was abandoned and raised at a church orphanage on the outskirts of the Clover Kingdom. Together with Yuno, his friend, he grew up listening to the great tales of the first Wizard King, which led to them desiring to become the next Wizard King. Moreover, they promised that they would compete with each other in the future for this title. In this world, everyone is born with the ability to use magical powers.

However, Asta is an exception who doesn’t even have an essence of mana. Now, to get at par with Yuno, a magical prodigy, Asta works hard to train himself beyond his limits physically. You can see similarities between Deku and Asta, with their powerlessness shown at the beginning of the series. Despite being in a similar position, Deku and Asta tackle their problems in different ways. Their personalities vary, even though you can see some similarities when it comes to moral-related questions.

Mob Psycho 100
Mob Psycho 100 – Anime Similar to My Hero Academia

11. Mob Psycho 100

Score: 8.75/10

Genres: Slice of Life, Comedy, Action, Supernatural

Another great anime similar to My Hero Academia is Mob Psycho 100. Eighth-grade student Shigeo “Mob” Kageyama has accessed his inner pool of psychic powers at a very young age. But the ability immediately demonstrates to be a bane when he understands the possible danger in his powers. So opting to subdue his powers, Mob’s only current use for his ability is to impress his all-time crush, Tsubomi. Also, she soon becomes bored with the same tricks over and over again.

To bring control of his powers, Mob surrenders himself under the shelter of Arataka Reigen, a confident man declaring to be a psychic, who uses Mob’s skills for pocket change. Now, conjuring evil spirits on instruction has become a segment of Shigeo’s every day. Shigeo is similar to Deku in a way that they both won’t hurt others and are a bit wimpy at times, while at other times display some badass scenes.

Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann – Anime Similar to My Hero Academia

10. Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann

Score: 8.64/10

Genres: Mecha, Adventure, Sci-Fi, Action

Is this an anime similar to My Hero Academia? Well, in a way, it is similar, but in a way, it is not. The main reason why I put off this anime from my watch list for an extended period is because of the mecha genre. However, after forcing myself to watch the 27 episodes, I can say it was worth my time.

One thing that is for sure is that the main character in this anime is very similar to Deku. They both are weak and scared characters that struggle with the overwhelming power of their enemies. Hitting the wall and striving to develop and grow stronger.

Concrete Revoluto – Anime Similar to My Hero Academia

9. Concrete Revoluto

Score: 6.7/10

Genres: Fantasy, Mystery, Superheroes, Action, Drama

Concrete Revoluto is a great anime similar to My Hero Academia.  The story revolves around Jirou, who works at the superhuman bureau. The superhumans blend into society and try to protect other superhumans that want to live peacefully. But, of course, they also have to deal with the dangerous superhumans who are a threat. But this is only the start of things as the series time-skips forward to a world that has come to hate Superhumans.

This is all caused due to corruption in the government and the moral rights of all Super Humans. Now a fugitive,  Jirou is faced with the harsh reality of fighting and defending himself from the superhumans he trained and recruited. Studio BONES adapted the anime, the same studio that did My Hero Academia. So you can be confident that the animation and character design looks excellent.

Gatchman Crowds – Anime Similar to My Hero Academia

8. Gatchaman Crowds

Score: 7.29/10

Genres: Adventure, Action, Sci-Fi, Superheroes

An exciting anime similar to My Hero Academia is Gatchaman Crowds. However, just like in Charlotte, the heroes in this anime are not praised. They keep their identity a secret.  Who are Gatchamans? They are superheroes that secretly protect the earth from outside threats.

The story follows a girl called Hajime, whose life miraculously changed when she discovered her superpowers. After that, she joined the Gatchaman to protect the world from alien invasions.  The anime aired in 2013 and has 12 episodes, and it’s perfect for a bit of superhero binge.

Charlotte
Charlotte – Anime Similar to My Hero Academia

7. Charlotte

Score: 7.8/10

Genres: Superpowers, School, Drama

Charlotte is a great anime, and it is an anime similar to My Hero Academia. It has superpowers, it’s a Shounen, and it revolves around the school concept. However, one significant difference is that the superpowers are kept hidden, and the users are keeping it a secret.

Unlike the superhero society where heroes get praise, people with special abilities have to keep in hiding here. The anime is short but still a good watch. The main character is intelligent and has a fascinating skill.

One Punch Man – Anime Similar to My Hero Academia

6. One Punch Man

Score: 8.59/10

Genres: Parody, Superheroes, Comedy, Action

One Punch Man is one of my favorite anime, similar to My Hero Academia. It has superpowers, heroes, and excellent comedy. And, let’s not forget the loveable main character Saitama. Although it’s quite similar, the main character is nothing like Deku. Saitama is among the strongest character I have seen.

However, that is not something terrible. Saitama was made strong as a parody character. And the comedy in this anime is outstanding. Comedy is not the only highlight of this anime, the characters are likable, and the animation is perfect.

Samurai Flamenco – Anime Similar to My Hero Academia

5. Samurai Flamenco

Score: 6.8/10

Genres: Action, Comedy, Superpower, Parody

Masayoshi Hazama has been in love with superheroes and superhero shows ever since he was a kid. He works as a model during the day, and, during the night, he dresses up as a superhero and catches petty thieves. Hazama’s goal is to bring justice to the city he lives in and deal with all the law-breakers.

Hidenori Gotou is a policeman who found out Hazama’s identity while he was doing his hero activities. Although you would think he would take him to the station and properly educate him about police work, Gotou joins Hazama in everyday hero shenanigans. They start by catching small crooks but soon end up trying to save the world.

Fire Force - anime similar to My Hero Academia
Fire Force – Anime Similar to My Hero Academia

4. Fire Force

Score: 8.1/10

Genres: Action, Shounen, Supernatural, Firefighters

Despite receiving some bad critiques from the anime community, Fire Force is a pretty good anime. I caught up with the manga, so I have been excited about this show. And I was rather surprised to see some of the reactions. The story is not the best there is, but it’s not bad either.

However, I can understand why some people dislike it. The comedy in the show is a bit strange at first, and until you get to know the characters better, you might hate it. Characters seem bland despite their weird/quirky personalities and are just off-putting to some audience parts.

I fell in love with the characters. Even though there is a lack of development for them in the manga, it seems to me the author took a straightforward and humoristic approach to his characters, which does not contrast nicely with the serious tone the series tries to portray.

Despite all of this, I would still recommend this show because you never know. You might end up loving it. The story follows Shinra Kusakabe, who tends to smile uncontrollably in the face of danger/awkward situations. Quite similar to Deku in that regard, and in the way they both want to become heroes.

Naruto – Anime Similar to My Hero Academia

3. Naruto

Score: 8.15/10

Genres: Shounen, Action, Adventure, Superpowers, Martial Arts

Naruto is a famous shounen anime, and it is renowned for a reason. There’s a lot of similarities between the two characters. Both are weak and struggling to become something great. Naruto is striving to become the Hokage (strongest ninja in the village) while Deku aims to become the top Hero. Both start weak and grow stronger as the series progresses.

Although it has a lot of similarities, the worlds these characters live in are different worlds. The world of Shinobi is cruel and dangerous, and if you love Ninjas, then you will love Naruto.  Therefore we can conclude that Naruto is a good anime to watch if you are looking for anime similar to My Hero Academia.

Little Witch Academia - anime similar to My Hero Academia
Little Witch Academia – Anime Similar to My Hero Academia

2. Little Witch Academia

Score: 8.0/10

Genres: School, Comedy, Fantasy, Magic

Atsuko Kagari, aka “Akko,” is a friendly and energetic kid with an inaptitude for magic. Despite this, she still wants to enroll in the Luna Nova Magical Academy. Akko has dreamt of becoming an influential witch that can bring smiles to all of those around her. Unfortunately, this is quite similar to Deku’s behavior, and her inaptitude for magic resembles his quirk-less state.

Akko’s adventure starts upon enrolling in the Luno Nova Magical Academy. Her first day of school starts, and on Akko’s way to the academy, she meets and befriends Lotte Yansson and Sucy Manbavaran.  However, after taking part in the academy lessons and tasks, Akko soon realizes her goal is going to be much harder to reach than she ever imagined. How will this girl with little to no magic tackle the grueling tasks set by the magical academy and her peers?

Tiger and Bunny - anime similar to My Hero Academia
Tiger and Bunny – Anime Similar to My Hero Academia

1. Tiger and Bunny

Score: 8.05/10

Genres: Superheroes, Mystery, Action, Comedy

If you are looking for anime similar to My Hero Academia, then this is one of the top picks. However, the anime is not entirely the same. While it might emphasize the hero, society, and superpowers, the main character is nothing like Deku.  And the anime is not a shounen.

Meaning that you will not see power scaling.  However, this anime is a great watch, and it covers some things that My Hero Academia did not. And that is the dark part of the hero society, It shows how Heroes struggle to keep their job, and the depth of the story is much more profound. While the series has its fun moments involving the MC and his interactions with other superheroes. It isn’t as lighthearted as My Hero Academia.

Nonetheless, it is a great anime and worth giving a shot if you are looking for a more serious and mature superhero anime. Also, now would be an excellent time to jump into this anime, considering the series will be getting a new spin-off series called Double Decker! Doug & Kirill, which will be airing in October 2018. So you’ll get to jump right back into this more mature Superhero World Once you have completed the main series. So that is something to look forward to.

With this, we have come to the end of the anime similar to my hero academia. Check out our list of top 20 best anime on Netflix worth checking out in 2020.
