Top 13 Anime Similar To My Hero Academia

Boku no Hero academia has taken one of the top spots in the shounen genre. And how couldn’t it? It has a likable main character,  superpowers, action, great animation, power scaling and let’s not forget the intriguing superhero society. However, what goes wrong with every great anime is that we run out of content to watch.  Everything must come to an end, and so does My Hero Academia. While we are waiting for a new season we want to fill the sadness in our heart. What to do and what to watch?  Well, no worries, I am going to give you a list of anime similar to My Hero Academia.

Before we start with the list of anime similar to My Hero Academia, I would like to say one thing. The rankings on the list are not based on my personal preference of the series. They are not ranked based on my likings of the shows. They are arranged in an order of similarities. I have looked for 5 points in similarity among the anime that are out there. And have chosen to look for the similarities in these elements: Superpowers, MC-alike, Shounen, School, Heroes.  Based on these similarities I have got this list of anime similar to My Hero Academia for you.

Anime Similar To My Hero Academia

1. Tiger and Bunny

If you are looking for anime similar to My Hero Academia then this is definitely one of the top picks. However, the anime is not completely the same. While it might emphasize the hero society and superpowers, the main character is nothing like Deku.  And the anime is not a shounen. meaning that you will not be seeing power scaling.  However, this anime is a great watch, and it covers some things that My Hero Academia did not. And that is the dark part of the hero society, It shows how Heroes struggle to keep their job, and the depth of the story is much deeper. While the series has it’s fun moments involving the MC and his interactions with other superheroes. It isn’t as fun as My Hero Academia.

Nonetheless, it is a great anime, and worth giving a shot. If you looking for a more serious and mature superhero anime. Also now would be a good time to jump into this anime considering the series will be getting a new spin-off series called, Double Decker! Doug & Kirill which will be airing next season October 2018. So you’ll get to jump right back into this more mature Superhero World Once you have completed the main series. So that is something to look forward to.

Similarities: Superpowers, Heroes.

2. Naruto

Naruto is a famous shounen anime, and it is famous for a reason. There’s a lot of similarities between the two characters. Both are weak and struggling to become something great. Naruto is struggling to become the Hokage (strongest ninja in the village) while Deku is struggling to become the top Hero. Both start off weak and grow stronger as the series progresses. Although it has a lot of similarities, the worlds these characters live in are a totally different world. The world of Shinobi is cruel and dangerous, and if you love Ninjas, then you will love Naruto.  Therefore we can conclude that Naruto is a good anime to watch if you are looking for anime similar to My Hero Academia.

Similarities: Superpowers, School, Shounen, MC-alike.

3. Assassination Classroom

Have you not seen Assassination Classroom? Well then, what are you waiting for? This anime was very good to watch, it has a good story and a good ending..  As the title says, the anime is about assassination and school. You see, Koro-sensei is a creature capable of mass destruction, he has superpowers. Koro-sensei destroyed half of the moon, came back on earth and decided to teach a class. He has given humans a certain time period in which they must attempt to kill him. The students in the school have to train to become Assassins in order to kill him and get the bounty on his head.  This is definitely an anime similar to My Hero Academia if you are looking for the school and superpower setting.

4. One Punch Man

One Punch Man is one of my favorite anime similar to My Hero Academia. It has superpowers, heroes and awesome comedy. And, let’s not forget the loveable main character Saitama. Although it’s quite similar, the main character is nowhere like Deku. Saitama is among the strongest character I have seen. However, that is not something bad, Saitama was made strong as a parody character. and the comedy in this anime is very good. Comedy is not the only highlight of this anime, the characters are likable, and the animation is very good. I am also very excited about the upcoming One Punch Man season 2.

Similarities: Superpowers. Heroes.

5. Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann

Is this an anime similar to My Hero Academia? Well, in a way it is similar, but in a way it is not. The main reason why I put off this anime from my watch list for a long period is because of the mecha genre. However, after forcing myself to watch the 27 episodes, I can say it was worth my time. One thing that is for certain is that the main character in this anime is very similar to Deku. They both are weak and scared characters that struggle with the overwhelming power of their enemies. Hitting the wall, and struggling to develop and grow stronger.

Similarities: Superpowers, MC-alike, Shounen.

6. Blue Exorcist

Blue Exorcist is another great anime similar to My Hero Academia. The story focuses on Rin Okumura who has demon powers. The anime has a lot of good fights and the story is pretty good. However, the first season cut off from the main story on episode 17 and with its own path. But that is alright because all you have to do is watch the first 17 episodes and then skip to season 2. Season 2 of Blue Exorcist continues the story of Rin Okumura. The anime setting is focused in a school for exorcists. The characters go to school to learn how to become exorcists.  Similar to hero school but more secretive and not so public.

Similarities: Superpowers, Shounen. School.

7. Mob Psycho 100

Another great anime similar to My Hero Academia is definitely Mob Psycho 100.  The character in this anime has caught much more attention than Deku. Unlike Deku, Mob is probably one of the strongest espers in the Mob Psycho 100 universe. However, being the strongest is not always the best. Because Mob does not want to use his powers on other people and is physically very weak. So he has to go through school life and daily problems of an average kid.  The character is much more complex and socially awkward than Deku.  The art is unique and the animation is very good once you get used to it.  Mob Psycho 100 season 2 will also be released soon.

Similarities: Superpowers, School. Shounen,

8. World Trigger

World Trigger is a great anime, however, is it an anime similar to My Hero Academia? Well, it is in a way, however, the story is much longer than My Hero Academia. You see, the main character Osamu is weak and slowly gets stronger, and like Deku, he uses his brains at first to come out of a pinch. The world of World Trigger uses a unique weapon system called “triggers” that enable the user special abilities and powers. Although it’s quite similar to My Hero Academia, Osamu still has not come to the point where he pulls off badass stunts. And most likely he might not. But that is alright because there are other great characters in his team that compensate for that. And there’s a lot of good fights in the anime.

Similarities: Superpowers, Shounen, MC-alike.

9. One Piece

I know some people would say how is One Piece an anime similar to My Hero Academia? And to some degree, I would have to agree with them. However, this anime is another awesome shounen like My Hero Academia and it has unique superpowers. Diving into the world of pirates might be a great change from the heroes. Pirates are bad guys, and heroes are good guys? Well, that is true, however, after watching this anime I have to say that the characters in there are just like Heroes. I won’t say anything else so I don’t spoil you, although I have to warn you that if you are looking for a short binge then this is not an anime for you. One Piece surpassed 800 episodes and is only around 70 percent finished.  Is it worth it? Yes, and the main character is a loveable badass.

Similarities: Superpowers, Shounen.

10. Fairy Tail

Fairy Tale is another great anime similar to My Hero Academia. However, there are no heroes in this anime. Although that might sound disappointing, this anime is actually a pretty good watch, it still has a lot of episodes. So if you don’t like anime with a lot of episodes then this is not an anime for you. However, if you do not mind it, then jump straight into watching this. The story revolves around a team of mages with Natsu as the main character. Natsu was raised by a dragon, which makes him a pretty interesting and fun character to watch.

Similarities: Superpowers, Shounen

11. Charlotte

Charlotte is a great anime, and it is definitely an anime similar to My Hero Academia. It has superpowers, it’s a shounen and it revolves around the school concept.
