Supernatural Historical TV Anime Dororo Releases 1st Promo Video, Key Visual

The official website of the upcoming TV Anime Dororo announced a second anime adaptation of the ‘Dororo’ manga series written by Tezuka Osamu weeks ago.

Now, we have the new promo video and an amazing key visual featuring along with the announcement that the show will premiere in January 2019. The promo video showcases the rich character designs of the characters. Check it out below.

Two studios, MAPPA and Tezuka Productions will be collaborating on this project. Twin Engine will be producing this supernatural and historical themed anime. Also, Amazon prime bought the exclusive rights to stream the anime in Japan and overseas. A 26-episode black-and-white anime series was the first adaptation of this manga in 1969 from Tezuka Productions.

Kazuhiro Furuhashi (Rurouni Kenshin) is serving as the director for the series with Yasuko Kobayashi (Attack on Titan) in-charge for the series scripts.

The setting is the middle of the Muromachi Period, during the 1470s after the Wars of Onin and Bunmei. The story begins in the Noto Peninsula of the Hokuriku District.

Hyakkimaru is a young man born with 48 missing body parts and not without reasons. Demons have taken them away as a payment from his father, Kagemitsu Daigo to fulfil his wished of taking over the country. Consequently, with his purpose served he is abandoned and thrown into a river. But miraculously, he survives due to the help of a medicine man who equips him with ‘artificial’ body parts.

Hyakkimaru grows up and vowes to kill all the 48 demons made from the use of his body parts. When he sets out on his journey to avenge the wrong done to him, he soon comes across a boy thief, Dororo who wishes to be his friend.
